Hahn's Spanish Masterclass

6 October 2018

Jochen Hahn took his 11th win of the 2018 FIA ETRC season at Jarama earlier today....

Jochen Hahn claimed the 11th win of his brilliant championship-winning season in the first race at Jarama in Spain today.

The German converted pole position to a decisive victory to lead home local hero Antonio Albacete by 2.1 seconds at the chequered flag.

The original start to the 12-lap race was red flagged after just four corners saw high-drama as Antonio Albacete and Norbert Kiss collided will fighting over second place. This, in turn, triggered a chain-reaction incident which involved six trucks in total.

As well as Kiss and Albacete, André Kursim (Don’t Touch Racing IVECO), Jamie Anderson (Anderson MAN), Frankie Vojtisek (Czech Truck Racing Team MAN) and Luis Recuenco (Trucksport Lutz Bernau) were also involved as they tried to chicane their way through the carnage.

Kiss, Albacete and Lacko were all placed under investigation for the incident, while Anthony Janiec who was also caught up in the melee was forced to start from the pit lane.

Subsequently, Kiss was penalised for the incident and given a five-place grid drop for the second Jarama race.

While Albacete was able to line-up for the re-start, Kiss was forced to skip the race for repairs to his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz truck.

At the re-start, Jochen Hahn once again blasted away but this time was completely unchallenged as Albacete was elevated to second after Kiss and also Kursim were unable to take the new start.

While Albacete took a comfortable second place, Sascha Lenz was engaged in a fierce battle with Lacko for the final podium position.

The fight was resolved in Lacko’s favor as he made a move at turn one and took the SL Trucksport driver.

Lenz fell back into the clutches of José Rodrigues and the two dueled for the duration of the race but the German was able to hold on to fourth from the Reboconort driver.

René Reinert and Steffi Halm took sixth and seventh while Shane Brereton finished eighth and sealed the semi-reverse pole position.

Anthony Janiec rounded out the top ten on the road despite starting from the pitlane and getting a 10-second penalty for overspeeding. He was though bumped down to 11thafter serving his penalty.

The GRAMMER TRUCK CUP saw another victory for the newly-crowned champion of the category, Shane Brereton.

The British driver in his TOR run MAN just headed home Steffen Faas (Tankpool24 Racing) and Oly Janes (Buggyra International Racing System).

Terry Gibbon was placed well in third position but lost control of his T-Sport MAN on lap three and fell down the order after crossing the gravel trap at turn one. That was the result of the rear brake failure that was caused by him receiving a hit from the back at the start.

Eduardo Rodrigues had one of his best races of the season to claim fourth in class while Erwin Kleinnaglevoort captured more points with fifth position in his EK Truck Race Scania.

Ray Coleman was just sixth in class aboard his LRS MAN while the Spanish contingent was headed by José Alberto Vila Sainz in his Ultima Vuelta MAN challenger who came home in 15thposition.

The teams’ points were taken by Die Bullen von IVECO Magirus as Hahn and Halm combined while Team Reinert Adventures and Trucksport Lutz Bernau took second and third respectively.
