Rene Reinert triumphed in race two at Jarama this evening....
Rene Reinert took his third win of the 2018 FIA ETRC season in race two at Jarama this evening.
The Reinert Racing MAN driver headed Shane Brereton to take a well-judged 10-points. It went some way to banishing the memory of several difficult recent rounds to add to his previous successes this year at Hungaroring and Most.
Pole sitter Brereton led by a narrow margin for half of the race with Reinert leading the chase after he vaulted Steffi Hahn’s Team Schwabentruck IVECO on the opening tour.
Reinert then made his race winning move for the lead on lap seven as he got the better of Brereton and powered his way through in what was an accomplished and decisive manoeuvre.
Despite her best efforts, Halm was unable to displace Brereton who took a fine second position while Halm claimed another podium place.
Brereton also took yet another GRAMMER TRUCK CUP victory in the category he has dominated this season.
The train of FIA ETRC trucks that fought for the final podium placing saw José Rodrigues (Reboconort MAN), Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport), Antonio Albacete (Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN) and race one winner Jochen Hahn (Hahn Racing IVECO).
This train finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, while Anthony Janiec should have taken eighth but was again penalised for overspeeding and dropped to 10thplace.
This allowed Steffen Faas to take eighth and also second in GRAMMER to consolidate his vice-champion status in the standings.
Adam Lacko’s race was compromised by running across a gravel trap on lap five. It was an excursion which saw him drop down the field from seventh to tenth position. He ultimately took ninth after Janiec’s penalty was applied.
Oly Janes took his second consecutive third in GRAMMER and 11th overall ahead of Luis Recuenco’s Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN.
Ray Coleman just beat Erwin Kleinnagelvoort to 13th overall and fifth in category after an entertaining scrap between the British and Dutch driver over must of the 12-lap race.
Next up was Eduardo Rodrigues in his Reboconort MAN. The Portuguese racer led home a disappointed Terry Gibbon who again suffered an excursion into the gravel on the exit of turn four.
Frans Smit claimed the final GRAMMER TRUCK CUP position in 17th overall while there was dejection for Norbert Kiss and Jamie Anderson who retired because of steering and braking issues respectively.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of their teams, both André Kursim and Frankie Vojtisek were unable to take part in the race after suffering extensive damage in the accident that red-flagged race one.
In the teams’ standings, it was Team Reinert’s René Reinert and Sascha Lenz who combined to take the points ahead of Die Bullen von IVECO Magirus and RS Racing.
