Former triple FIA European Truck Racing Champion Antonio Albacete was at the Nürburgring as he continues negotiations on trying to re-join the championship.

Making a welcome visit to the FIA ETRC paddock for the first time in 2016, Albacete caught up with old friends and rivals as he looks to return to the championship next season.

“Yes of course I am missing the competition,” Albacete said last weekend. “I am here to catch up on what is going on and what I tell you is I want to return in 2017. I am open to offers from teams but also still interested in fielding my own team. I am not ruling anything out.”

The 2005, 2006 and 2010 FIA European Truck Racing Champion has so far enjoyed the season, despite catching up on the action via TV.

“So far it has looked competitive and a good year. The level is good at the front and there are many battles. The trucks are a big love of mine and I think that the atmosphere here in Germany shows the strong attraction in this racing for the people (public).”

Albacete, who finished fifth in last season’s FIA ETRC with five wins at Valencia, Nuburgring, Hungary and Le Mans, is speaking to teams in the paddock about the possibility of a deal in 2017.

The FIA ETRC visits Jarama in Spain on 1-2 October.
