Reigning FIA ETRC champion, Norbert Kiss, underlined the potential of his new Tankpool24 Mercedes-Benz truck by taking pole position for today’s opening race at Circuit Paul Armagnac, Nogaro.

The Hungarian claimed his first top spot since the end of the 2015 season by setting an early session time of 1.53.329s. Kiss’ effort was just 0.263s ahead of Adam Lacko’s Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner ‘FatFox’time of 1m53.592s.

It was a tense Super Pole session which saw the top five covered by just 0.7s. Jochen Hahn will start third after he missed out on a front row position by just 0.068s. Joining the German on the second row of the grid will be his Reinert Adventures team’s title partner, Rene Reinert.

Reinert headed Steffi Halm in Super Pole. The popular German was fifth, as she attempts to fight for more podium positions after her magnificent Misano performances.

Local favourite, Anthony Janiec, placed sixth in his Lion Truck Racing entry. The bright yellow MAN was just under a second ahead of the second Buggyra entry driven by young Czech charger Jiri Forman.

Ellen Lohr posted an improved time late in the session to jump from ninth to eighth position, thus demoting Sascha Lenz on to the fifth row of the grid. Erwin Kleinnagelfoort starts in 10th position for the first race of the third event in the 2016 FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

In the earlier Timed Practice session, which formed the ten drivers that went through to Super Pole,  it was again Norbert Kiss at the top of the timing screens with a 1m53.857s lap, just under one hundredth of a second ahead of Adam Lacko.

The one driver to miss out on Super Pole was Eduardo Rodrigues’ in his Reboconorte MAN. The Portuguese was just 0.368s away from making the cut as he battled with the white Scania of Dutchman, Erwin Kliennagelvoort.

The first race of the Nogaro weekend takes place at 14.30 local time this afternoon.
