Adam Lacko picked up from where he left off in Austria last month to claim another pole position in a thrilling FIA European Truck Racing Championship Super Pole session this afternoon.
The Czech racer, driving for the Buggyra International Racing System team, set a best time of 2m04.492s to ensure a second successive pole position. Lacko outpaced his rivals, led by Rene Reinert, and looked confident in his ‘FatFox’ around the 4.165kms track.
In warm and sunny conditions at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli close to the Adriatic coast Rene Reinert secured a solid front-row position, setting a best lap of 2m04.519s, just 0.027s behind Lacko.
In third position was Jochen Hahn who was only another 0.047s behind Reinert in one of the closest ever Super Pole sessions. The tense and fascinating session saw Steffi Halm make a superb Super Pole run and place fourth and just 0.1s behind Hahn. Indeed only 0.8s covered the top five with Anthony Janiec qualifying at the head of row three of the starting grid.
Ellen Lohr was delighted with a return to form at Misano. The popular and experienced Truck Sport Lutz-Bernau pilot placed sixth ahead of Jeremy Robineau, Sascha Lenz and Jiri Forman.
There was frustration for Gerd Korber who had his best times cancelled in Super Pole after hitting circuit boundary markers during his laps. The German will therefore start from 10th position for this afternoon’s race which will start at 15.00cet.
Timed Practice - The rest of the grid set
The battle to make it in to the top ten for the Super Pole session was again intense. Just missing out were Frankie Vojtisek, Andre Kursim, Jean-Claude Labadie, Eduardo Rodrigues, Dominique Orsini and Norbert Kiss.
There was late session drama when Kiss was penalised for black smoke violations and lost his hard-earned place in the top 10. The reigning champion had set a time good enough to make the super pole but was left disappointed after the stewards cancelled the time he set in his new Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz. This allowed Buggyra International Racing System’s Jiri Forman in to the top ten.
Jochen Hahn topped the timing screens in the 20-minute timed session with a 2m04.239s to lead Steffi Halm by just 0.407s. Rene Reinert placed third on a 2m04.830s.
Ellen Lohr (Truck Sport Lutz-Bernau) was an excellent fifth fastest, showing that experience counts on the highly technical Misano circuit. Lohr was just behind Adam Lacko in the No.55 Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner ‘FatFox).
