We look back at the latest GRAMMER TRUCK CUP action at Autodrom Most....
There was disappointment in losing a hard-earned race one GRAMMER TRUCK CUP win at Autodrom Most on Saturday for Oly Janes but the British driver took some comfort in slightly extending his points lead overall.
Despite the frustration that he and the rest of the FIA ETRC felt at the unfortunate weather which ruled out any racing on Sunday, the Buggyra Racing driver gained enough points to extend the lead in the title chase over Luis Recuenco slightly to five points.
Janes took a win in race one, on the road at least, but a penalty for overspeeding saw him fall down to an eventual classified position of fourth in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP category.
Terry Gibbon was the beneficiary of Janes’ penalty but the T Sport MAN driver was a strong contender all weekend and was justified in celebrating the victory.
He backed this up with a superb performance in race two when he handled the responsibility of starting from a first ever overall pole position to build a strong race and scoop a double in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP.
Gibbon’s 19 points thrust him up in to fifth place in the points standings as he looks forward to a strong final three events of the 2019 campaign.
"It was a good weekend. I'm really happy with the results - two first places finishes, so got maximum points on Saturday. Sunday was a bit of a washout but everybody was on the same boat. The lap times are improving," said Gibbon. "We're closing the gap to the trucks in front. This weekend we were 2s away from Jochen [Hahn] and the people at the front, so we're going in the same direction, always making steps.
"[In Race 2] I was a bit nervous because it was the first time I was starting on the front row, so you're always looking a little bit behind [in a situation like that]. Maybe I should have been looking forward a little bit more, but I didn't want to cause any problems. It was not the best result and I fell a little bit behind.
While Recuenco was unable to make inroads on Janes’ points lead, the Spaniard did at least have a strong two races on Saturday.
The Truck Sport Lutz Bernau driver collated 17 points, but with Jamie Anderson scoring 15 points for second place in race one it means that Janes, Recuecno and Anderson are now separated by a mere 30 points with 12 races remaining and 180 points up for grabs.
Anderson had a tough weekend overall with a retirement in race two caused after contact with Giboon’s T Sport MAN at the chicane.
Tankpool24 Racing driver Fabio Citignola collected 14 points over the Saturday races as he continued to gain knowledge at the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz truck.
Eduardo Rodrigues cemented his seventh position in the points standings with a fifth and fourth place finish respectively in his Reboconort MAN.
Erwin Kleinnagelvoort took his sixth consecutive 2019 FIA ETRC points finish in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP, but Dominique Orsini wasn’t so lucky as he hit problems in both races and failed to register a point last weekend.
The next races in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP will take place over the weekend of 14/15 September at Circuit Zolder in Belgium.
