The GRAMMER TRUCK CUP at the Hungaroring produced another superb weekend of racing with three winners from four races...
It was a weekend painted red, white and blue for the union flag of the UK last weekend as British drivers dominated the top steps in all four GRAMMER TRUCK CUP category races.
All the wins were taken by British drivers in Hungary, with Oly Janes and Terry Gibbon taking a victory apiece on Saturday and Jamie Anderson sweeping to an impressive double on Sunday.
The Race 1 victory went to Buggyra Racing’s Janes, who capitalised on a retirement for Jamie Anderson’s pole sitting and leading truck. Luis Recuenco and rookie Fabio Citignola completed the podium after some close dicing.
In Race 2 fortunes turned around for Janes. He was leading after the race got underway but a problem with overheating brakes caused him to run wide in Turn 4, losing several places as a result. Terry Gibbon, making his first FIA ETRC appearance of the season found himself in the lead and remained there until the chequered flag to take a popular win, with Recuenco and Janes completing the top three.
Come Sunday and it seemed that it may be Recuecno’s day at last. The Truck Sport Lutz Bernau driver led the way in the category, having qualified a very strong eighth overall. 
The Spaniard, however, had to serve a drive-through penalty for track limit infringements, handing the victory to Anderson. Gibbon crossed the finish line in second, with the podium being completed by the Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz of Citignola.
Anderson doubled up in Race 4, taking his second victory of the day after an accomplished display.
Starting from the front row in the semi-reversed grid race, Anderson was in contention for the overall podium for much of the race, but eventually dropped down the order. He ended up finishing eighth overall, winning the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP for the second time on the same day. Janes came second on this occasion with Reucenco in third.
Following Race 4 Anderson admitted that two victories were sweet for him and his Anderson Racing squad but his goal had been to be higher up the overall order.
“We had a great Sunday and it is pleasing to get that double win and stay in contention in the points,” said Anderson.
“But naturally you want to be right up with the big names, but I am sure that will come. For now I just want to say thanks to the team because it was a superb effort after a tough Saturday for us.”
All front runners experienced mixed fortunes to some degree last weekend, but it was Janes who left the Hungaroring with the biggest points hauls to his name, accumulation 47 points over the course of four races to enjoy a 19-point advantage in the standings.
T-Sport Racing’s Terry Gibbon was happy with his performances over the course of the weekend, yet he stressed that there’s more to come from his new package which now features a common rail engine. The Lancastrian also stated that he’s still in “a learning phase with the new engine requiring a different driving style.”
With Recuenco second and Anderson third in the standings but still well in touch with leader Janes, Fabio Citignola places fourth in his rookie campaign which is seeing the German getting to grips with the FIA ETRC with every lap.
Slovakiaring is the next stop for the FIA European Truck Racing Championship’s competitors on 6/7 July where the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP competitors will again put on another titanic fight for the prestigious category honours.
