Ryan Smith has been penalised for a false start at the first round of the 2016 FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Red Bull Ring today.
The British racer, driving a self-entered but OXXO Racing Team run MAN truck was given a drive through penalty converted to 30-second time penalty and thus was pushed down to a 10th placed finish in the final classification.
Smith crossed the finish line in an initial third position, a best ever FIA ETRC result, but the 34 year-old was denied the position after the stewards deemed his start to be a false one.
The penalty for Smith means that he will now start from 10th position on the starting grid. Norbert Kiss is elevated to pole position while Thomas Robineau will start alongside Kiss on the front-row.
