Check out what the drivers said after a drama filled day of action at Hungaroring today
Race 1
1st Norbert Kiss – Team Tankpool24 Racing | Mercedes-Benz
“I made a good enough start, not the best, but good enough to stay in front. I was on the inside, so I was able to make it through staying first. After Jochen [Hahn] started to drop further and further back and at that point I knew that I have the pace. I already saw it yesterday and today during the free practice sessions and I know that there’s a possibility of scoring a victory here. The only thing was not to make a mistake and it worked out.
“I’m happy because it’s really good to come back [after the summer break] on the top of the podium at the Hungaroring in front of Hungarian fans. When you hear the cheering, you can really feel why it’s so good to race here, it’s like a football match or something. The fans here are so nice and they love motor racing, I’m really happy to be here. The reverse grid race is always tricky but I hope tomorrow I’ll have a possibility of winning race three.”
2nd Jochen Hahn – Team Hahn Racing | Iveco
“I had a good start and into the first corner he [Norbert Kiss] gave me space and I gave him space and then I was thinking ‘OK, now, I’m going to do it now” but after two laps he was a second faster per lap. I accepted that and backed off. Anything more wasn’t possible today, now we’re looking forward to the second race. Congratulations to Norbert.”
3rd Steffi Halm – Reinert Racing | MAN
“It was important to score as many points as possible. The start was good but the front row was locked up and I had nowhere to go. I tried to push ‘Norbi’ to make him a bit quicker so that I could have gotten in front of Jochen but it didn’t worked out. I had a little fight with Shane [Brereton] and I managed to stay in front in third. From then on I didn’t push too hard because in the beginning I got two warnings so I decided to save third place and bring it home. Hopefully it’s going to be a little bit better in the second race.”
Race 2
1st Adam Lacko – Buggyra International Racing System | Freightliner
“The first lap was very tough. All the way until turn five it’s very tight and I was pushed a little bit by Steffi [Halm] from the left and I pushed Gerd [Körber]. After that I went after David [Vršecký] and managed to pass him under breaking into the second corner. It was a clean pass, we’re team-mates and we don’t want to make any trouble for each other. Then I saw Jochen coming very quickly, so I tried not to make a mistake and stay in control. Maintaining all the temperatures in my truck was crucial because this weather is not easy on out trucks. I finished first and I’m very happy with this because here at the Hungaroring we always struggle for grip.”
2nd Jochen Hahn – Team Hahn Racing | Iveco
“David [Vršecký] made a little mistake, I went side-by-side with him and we had a bit of contact. Even after I overtook him we had contact again two or three more times so it was very hard. After that, I went after Adam, but when Adam makes no mistakes you simply can’t overtake him, that’s clear. He did a good job, he won so I’d like to congratulate him and hope that tomorrow I’ll be able to overtake him.”
