Adam Lacko secured his second victory of the day with a dominant display after scything through the pack from eighth on the grid to complete another assured performance.

The Buggyra International Racing Driver headed home Lion Truck Racing’s Anthony Janiec by a huge 10.303s at the chequered flag to extend his points lead to 31 points after ten races of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season.

The race began with a wet but slowly drying circuit and there was drama immediately as third on the grid, Anthony Janiec, completed a spectacular 360 degree spin in front of the pack at turn two. It was a miraculous escape for the Frenchman, not to mention the chasing pack, who all narrowly avoided the Lion Truck MAN.

Pole sitter Gerd Körber initially held the lead in his Team Schwabentruck Iveco from Jochen Hahn. The reigning champion launched his Hahn Racing Iveco up the field from sixth on the grid to place second by the end of the first lap.

The Iveco pair ran 1-2 until lap three. This was when the charging Lacko surged ahead of Hahn in a beautifully judged move. Lacko then reeled-in Körber and by lap four was through and in to a lead he would comfortably keep to the chequered flag.

Körber drove one of his best races in recent years to secure third position on the podium as he was able to hold off his friend and countryman Jochen Hahn. It was a popular podium appearance by Körber who celebrates his 30th anniversary of appearing at the ADAC Truck Grand Prix.

Behind the Czech racer there were many memorable fights for the remaining positions. Chief among these was the battle for the remaining podium position, as the recovering Janiec continued to show his excellent pace and began to catch Hahn. Janiec eventually despatched both Hahn and Körber to take an eye-catching second.

Drama continued on lap six as a three-way battle between Antonio Albacete (Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN), David Vrsecky (Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner) and Norbert Kiss (Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz) ended in tears.

Albacete and Vrsecky touched exiting turn three and Kiss was innocently involved and taken out by the squabbling pair.

While Kiss and Vrsecky continued, albeit with damaged trucks, Albacete was forced to park his MAN to register his first non-score of the season. Kiss recovered to finish ninth, while Vrsecky was again penalised for over-speeding and saw his initial tenth position relegated to 15th position.

There was an all-German battle for fifth position as Steffi Halm (Reinert Racing MAN) and Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport MAN) both fought tenaciously until the very last corner. Halm held on despite contact between the pair just before they crossed the finishing line.

In the Promoter’s Cup there was a first success for Andre Kursim, as the Tankpool24 Racing youngster put behind him the disappointment of losing a win during the first race earlier in the day.

The German scored an emotional victory and also registered seventh place overall with a faultless drive to seal the top step of the podium in the Promoter’s Cup category.

After Jose Rodrigues dropped back early on, Kursim controlled the pace to lead home Stefan Faas who claimed a second podium of the day in his Team Schwabentruck Iveco.

Third place went to Jeremy Robineau’s MAN after the Frenchman made a late race move on veteran racer Heinz-Werner Lenz’s Mercedes-Benz. Robineau also took 10th overall after Vrsecky’s penalty was applied after the race.

The Teams’ championship battle saw Die Bullen von IVECO Magirus (Korber and Hahn) win ahead of  Reinert Racing Adventures (Halm and Lenz), with third position taken by Buggyra 1969 (Lacko and Vrsecky).

The action continues tomorrow with race three scheduled at 11.55am and the final encounter at the ADAC Truck Grand Prix slotted in for 14.45cet
