KISS CLAIMS POLE IN WET JARAMA QUALIFYING

3 October 2021

The Hungarian racer secured his eighth pole this season, while Buggyra young gun Aliyyah Koloc broke into the top ten for the first time during the second qualifying session at Jarama

Rain covered the Spanish track this morning, making the conditions tricky to navigate. Out of the gates, Kiss had looked to be on the back foot, six seconds off the pace, but came through to true form to take provisional pole at the end of the 20-minute qualifying session. The biggest surprise was Aliyyah Koloc, who had a fantastic session claiming eighth overall to give herself a spot in Super Pole.

Although the track was drying, the rain continued to fall on the Jarama Circuit, making timing a crucial element to the ten minutes of Super Pole.

Kiss led the way throughout the session, holding onto pole with a 2:08.318, but home favourite Antonio Albacete did not let pole go without a fight.

Pushing his MAN truck to the limit, Albacete took second on the grid, nine-thousandths of a second off Kiss’ lap time. The Spaniard will be hot on the heels of the Hungarian driver when we go racing later this afternoon.

Adam Lacko took third on the grid, half a second off Kiss’ time, but importantly two places ahead of championship rival Sascha Lenz. The pair were split by Jochen Hahn in fourth.

Steffi Halm and yesterday’s race two winner André Kursim rounded off the top seven, the last two drivers to set a time within two seconds of Kiss.

Even though he ended the session beached in the gravel trap at Turn 1, Téo Calvet took pole position in the Goodyear Cup, eighth overall. He led José Rodrigues and Aliyyah Koloc across the line to complete the top three in class and bottom of the top ten overall.

Race 3 gets underway at 13:15 race local time, where Albacete will be hoping to secure victory in front of his home crowd. The rain is still falling at Jarama, so it is anticipated to be a wet race.
