Kiss nets fourth pole of the season at Zolder

11 September 2021

For the fourth time this season, Norbert Kiss claimed the top spot in the opening race at Zolder

The Hungarian looked in command throughout the session, topping the timing sheets at the end of qualifying to take provisional pole into Super Pole. However, it was not a clean run to the chequered flag as German Jochen Hahn kept the pressure on the championship leader. The pair swapped provisional pole position throughout the Super Pole session until Kiss came out on top with a marginal 0.058s advantage.

The pair were in a class of their own, holding over half a second advantage on the rest of the field. Sascha Lenz was best of the rest, securing third on the grid 0.618s off Kiss’ 1:56.685 pole position time.

Lenz had been in the fight during qualifying, ending second only a tenth off Kiss and a tenth ahead of Hahn, but Super Pole saw him lose his pace advantage on the pair.

The rest of the top ten remained fairly consistent with their performance in qualifying, with only Antonio Albachete, André Kursim and Shane Brereton improving their starting positions in Super Pole.

Albacete, who will start alongside Lenz from the second row, leads Adam Lacko, André Kursim and

Shane Brereton claimed pole in the GOODYEAR Cup, ahead of Téo Calvet and Jamie Anderson.

Albeit having a great qualifying getting him through to Super Pole, Anderson had a hard time in the final ten minutes, struggling to find a competitive pace. He finished the session tenth.

The session was interrupted by a red flag, brought out by Clemens Hecker eight minutes into qualifying. The German pulled over and had to park his truck with damage to his turbo charger and had to be recovered from the track. Hecker was 12th when he came to a halt and is due to start 14th on the grid.
