ETRA AND IVECO EXTEND PARTNERSHIP UNTIL 2023 AND INTRODUCE GAS-POWERED PACE TRUCK

2 June 2021

The European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) is delighted to announce a three-year extension of its long-standing partnership with IVECO.

IVECO will not only continue to be an official partner of the FIA ETRC, the transport vehicle manufacturer will also provide a Bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas)-powered IVECO S-WAY NP as the pace truck for all events.

With the introduction of HVO biofuel to the FIA ETRC from the 2021 season, the Bio-LNG-powered pace truck will be the second technology on the truck racing grid, as a further step of the championship to accommodate technical developments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on track.

Like all of IVECO’s natural power gas vehicles, the new pace truck is Bio-LNG ready. By using Bio-LNG, it does not only reduce nitrogen dioxide and soot emissions, it also reduces the carbon dioxide emissions by up to 95%.

Last season, the IVECO S-WAY NP already made an appearance at the race weekends and it will now become the first environmentally friendly pace truck powered by gas at the truck racing events. Apart from an economic consumption, the pace truck will also benefit from the reduced noise levels of a gas engine.

“Firstly we’re exited to continue our successful partnership with IVECO for another three years,” said Georg Fuchs, Managing Director at ETRA. “We’re grateful for the trust and commitment of IVECO and look forward to intensifying our cooperation.

This year is a true year of change for the FIA ETRC as we’re taking truck racing to the next level with our sustainability transition. To have an environmentally friendly Pace Truck lead the field represents the direction we’re taking, in that we want to become a leading platform for sustainable technologies in the road haulage industry on and off the race track.

With the introduction of a fuel fully originated from renewable sources, we’ve already taken an important step in reducing our CO2 emissions and the IVECO S-WAY NP is another milestone on our way to a more sustainable future.”
