KISS WRAPS UP DIGITAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH DOUBLE WIN AT JARAMA

7 March 2021

Norbert Kiss took his fourth pole and two more wins in the last round of the ETRC Digital Racing Challenge in Jarama to secure the virtual championship for the second time in a row

RACE 1

The Hungarian lead the pack away at the start and kept the upper hand against Hahn going into the first corner. His lead never in danger, Kiss took the chequered flag, over 4 seconds clear of Lukas Hahn in second.

Kiss’ closest championship rival Manuel Alvarez got pushed out at the first corner by Jonathan Andre and spun off. The Spaniard dropped back into tenth and despite working his way up the field again, he was effectively out of the title contention as he finished in sixth.

Behind Hahn in second, Sascha Lenz and Robbin Kruithof battled for third with Lenz unable to shake the Dutch driver off. The pair fought until the end and Lenz crossed the line first to secure his third podium.

RACE 2

Jonathan André was on pole for the reversed-grid race. After the first start was red-flagged, the race got underway and Norbert Kiss was on a charge moving up into third within the first few corners.

Manuel Alvarez was putting the pressure on Jonathan André and got past the Frenchman. He had a flying Kiss on his back though, who was pushing hard to take over the lead. The Hungarian eventually got past the Spaniard and cleared off to take his sixth win. Alvarez got hit with a penalty from an incident at the start of the race, however the gap to third was big enough for him to drive home second place in the last race as well as second in the overall standings.

French Lion Truck Racing team manager Jonathan André finished the race in third, his first podium of the season.

Lukas Hahn started in seventh and gradually worked his way up. He fought for position with Josy Vila and Robbin Kruithof and their battle got more intense in the closing stages of the race. Hahn eventually got past Josy Villa and managed to keep Kruithof behind to finish fourth initially but a time penalty saw him drop back two places. He also secured third place in the ETRC Digital Racing Challenge overall standings.
