FIA ETRC welcomes WTCR in Super Racing Festival at the Hungaroring

13 October 2020

The FIA World Touring Car Cup (FIA WTCR) will join the FIA European Truck Racing Championship in Hungary for a super weekend of racing action.

The FIA ETRC and FIA WTCR have shared a successful alliance before when they collaborated at the Slovakiaring in 2018.

"We very much look forward to be sharing a race weekend with the WTCR again, albeit under different circumstances this year” said Rolf Werner, Managing Director at ETRA. “Our last joint event in 2018 was a huge success and very well received by everyone involved."

Even though this year’s FIA ETRC season will be shorter with only 3 race weekends, the season opening event at the Autodrom Most at the end of August has already thrown up some thrilling racing and Hungary and Misano will without a doubt see more exciting wheel-to-wheel action.

The FIA ETRC races are held under strict guidelines of the FIA Appendix S, which includes a comprehensive Covid-safe concept with strict hygienic measures as well as tests and health checks for all attending teams, staff and media.

Local hero Norbert Kiss made an impressive start to the 2020 season, when he topped the timesheets in the timed practice sessions and both super poles and also took a win and a podium. Kiss last took a win in his home race in 2017 and he will be looking for a repeat this weekend.
"The performance in Most was really really great and better than expected! The new Révész Truck Racing Team is great, we’ve really put in the hard work at the beginning of the year for it to turn out well, so I am really thankful to the team and to our founder Mr. Bálint Révész for starting this team."

Buggyra Zero Mileage racing driver Adam Lacko took his first victory and a podium in his home race in Most and will have his eyes on another top result this weekend at the Hungaroring.

Jochen Hahn kicked off the 2020 season with two podiums at Most, and whilst the six-time FIA ETRC champion was happy with his performance, he admitted that the team has got some work to do to catch the competition: “The first race of the season is the moment when you know where you stand and how fast and strong the other drivers are. We know we have some work to do and will certainly put in the effort to come back on the top step."

Team Schwabentruck’s Steffi Halm scored consistent results in the first round in the Czech Republic with two fifth and a sixth place whilst Anthony Janiec had mixed results at Most, with a retirement and 10th place but improved his tally with a fifth place in the race on Sunday. The Lion Truck racing driver will be keen to better his performance this weekend in Hungary.

Spanish ETRC champion Antonio Albacete didn’t have the best of starts at the season opener in Most, where he struggled with set-up changes in his brand-new MAN truck. The team have since had more track time as they took part in other races, which has given them the chance to continue to optimise the set-up of their new truck, but also to test some changes that they made to the brake system after the season opener in Most. This weekend Albacete will without a doubt be looking to get back into the mix for the podium.

GOODYEAR CUP ACTION GUARANTEED

The opening round in Most saw plenty of action and some very tight racing in the chrome driver category. Frenchman Téo Calvet claimed his first win in what was also his first wet race on Sunday in Most.

Tankpool24 racing driver Steffen Faas showed great form and claimed a second and third place in the Goodyear cup.

FIA ETRC rookie Aliyyah Koloc had an impressive debut at the race in Most, where the 16-year old took her first points as she finished an incredible 8th place in race 1. She also claimed a podium as she finished second in the Goodyear cup and it would be no surprise to see the Czech racer on the podium again this weekend in Hungary.

German driver Clemens Hecker will be keen for another great result, after he got his first podium in the Goodyear cup in Most and Spaniard Luis Recuenco will be fighting for points at the Hungaroring.
