CALVET BEATS KISS TO FINAL WIN OF THE VIRTUAL RACING SEASON

16 August 2020

The last two races of the virtual truck racing season saw plenty of action with Norbert Kiss securing his 12th digital racing victory and French Buggyra driver Téo Calvet beating the Hungarian racer to score his second win.

Norbert Kiss secured his seventh pole in Qualifying as he posted the fastest lap ahead of Jonathan André and Sascha Lenz.

It was a busy start to the first race with a few swaps in positions at the front of the field, however by the end of the first few laps, the top four from qualifying had settled back and spread out over the first four positions.

The second half of the grid with Antonio Albacete, Adam Lacko, Björn Tyhuis and Jamie Anderson however stayed closely together and provided for some great battles.

Antonio Albacete got into trouble when he ran on the grass and went off track, taking Adam Lacko with him. There was plenty of action at the back of the field, but the Spaniard managed to prevail and finish in fifth.

A great battle developed between Jamie Anderson and Adam Lacko towards the end of the race which saw the Brit secure sixth place after Lacko got a penalty for pushing.

Norbert Kiss secured his 12th win with a 13.5-second gap to Jonathan André in second, the seventh podium for the Frenchman, and Sascha Lenz in third. It was Sascha’s 14th podium of the season and he also secured the runner-up position in the Championship.

Race two was red-flagged after some incidents at the start. Once it got underway again, Björn Tyhuis lead the field from pole position. Jamie Anderson who sat in second, lost connection on the formation lap and rejoined the field on the third lap in last position.

Téo Calvet got a great start and moved into second, with Lacko in third and Antonio Albacete behind him. Calvet was all over the back of Björn Tyhuis and made short work getting past the Dutch driver to lead the field.

Albacete, Lenz and André were fighting for fourth and it didn't take long for the trio to catch up with Tyhuis in third. Antonio Albacete fought his way past to secure his second podium of the season.

Norbert Kiss was in his familiar hunting position from the back of the grid moving up into fifth after the first lap. He caught up to Antonio Albacete and the pair made contact when they battled for position and dropped back a place. Kiss made his way past and got up into third, with Albacete still on his tail. The Hungarian racer pulled away, caught up with Tyhuis quickly and made short work of the Dutch driver to continue his hunt for the top step.

Kiss worked away at the gap to Calvet and gradually closed in on him. A nail-biting last lap saw the two drivers go side by side but in the end the French driver got the upper hand and crossed the finish line first, to take his second win of the season.
