Jochen Hahn took a special win for himself and Team Hahn in race one this afternoon...
Jochen Hahn took an emotional victory at the first FIA ETRC race of the weekend at Circuito Jarama this afternoon after winning from light-to-flag.
The recently crowned champion led Antonio Albacete to the chequered flag to claim his 13th victory of the season to date.
For Hahn it will be remembered as a special win, as it came just two days after the death of his father Konrad Hahn who had been a driving force behind the formation and development of Hahn Racing for over 20 years.
It was a fitting tribute to the popular ‘Conni’ Hahn, as his his son took the chequered flag from home favourite Albacete in front of a bumper crowd.
Sascha Lenz took a comfortable third in his SL Trucksport30 MAN and was able to manage his pace in the later stages.
While the first three places saw a reasonable gap between the protagonists, the battle for fourth entertained the crowd throughout the 12-lap encounter.
Team Schwabentruck’s Steffi Halm led a train of trucks comprising Buggyra Racing’s Adam Lacko and Norbert Kiss’ Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz.
The trio lapped nose-to-tail for the majority of the race but any clean move between the three was not forthcoming and they completed the race fourth, fifth and sixth.
However, it was a close run thing and Halm took the chequered flag just 0.2s ahead of Lacko (who lost his front bodywork) and Kiss.
Coming home an untroubled seventh was Jose Rodrigues in his Reboconort MAN truck ahead of Rene Reinert who sealed the semi-reverse grid pole position in his Reinert Racing IVECO.
Anthony Janiec made a move on Andre Kursim early in the race to take 10th place in his Lion Truck MAN.
In the GRAMMER TRUCK Cup Jamie Anderson took another impressive win to reward his team who readied their MAN after practice issues around a lose pipe on its gear selector cylinder.
Anderson decreased the gap to title leader Oly Janes by five points as Janes took second ahead of T Sport’s Terry Gibbon who made it another all-British podium.
Gibbon gave Janes a hard time for most of the race with contact between the two being made and placed under investigation.
Luis Recuenco lost any chance of a title shot after he slipped back to fourth behind Gibbon after initially holding third in his Truck Sport Lutz Bernau entry. Recuenco is now 46 points behind Janes with only 40 left to play for.
However, the Spaniard fought back hard in the race and finished just 0.3 seconds off the back of Gibbon in a frantic race to the flag.
Erwin Kleinnagelvoort and Jose-Eduardo Rodrigues again took part in a close battle for fifth in GRAMMER with the Dutch driver coming out on top.
Dominique Orsini took seventh in class, but there was bad luck for Fabio Citignola after he was forced in to an engine change this afternoon and did not start.
The Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz driver should though make an appearance for the second event this afternoon.
