A battle royale will play out at Circuito Jarama this weekend for the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP after all three of the title protagonists took category wins last weekend at Le Mans Bugatti.

Oly Janes came out of the weekend with an increased points lead of 38 points but with 60 to play for in Spain both second placed Jamie Anderson and third placed Luis Recuenco still have chances to catch the Buggyra Racing driver.

It was Recuenco who took the first race of the weekend, his third such success in 2019. The Truck Sport Lutz Bernau driver was able to gain eight points on Janes who finished third, while Erwin Kleinnagelvoort celebrated his best ever GRAMMER TRUCK CUP result with runners-up position in his EK Sport Scania.

With Anderson only able to place fifth on this occasion, Truck Sport Lutz Bernau’s Recuenco temporarily vaulted in to second position.

However, there was disaster in race two for Recuenco when was forced to retire.

Anderson romped home to a 10th GRAMMER win of the season ahead of Janes to set up a mouth-watering battle for Sunday’s races.

It didn’t disappoint as in wet conditions in race three Janes drove the race of his life to run sixth for most of the race, soaking up significant pressure from Steffi Halm. He eventually took seventh overall and a masterful GRAMMER win to extend his points lead.

“It was a tough one that,” understated a delighted Janes after the race.

“The conditions were super tricky but we had a nice set-up and I was quick for the majority of the race.

“That has to rank as my best performance in FIA ETRC. I’m just super pleased for the result and also have to say big thanks to the team for the preparation today.”

In a tense and dramatic race, Recuenco placed second for all but the final corner!

That was where Anderson launched a move down the inside for the position but the two collided with Recuenco spinning down to fourth in category.

A clearly furious Recuenco caught up with Anderson as the pair came in to the pits on the slowing down lap and barged the British racer off the track to show his displeasure.

The outburst cost Recuenco a €5000 fine suspended for the rest of the 2019 season.

Race four saw Anderson take a fine win after leading overall for the first lap due to starting from pole on the semi-reverse grid. Janes though followed him home for second place with Recuenco third.

All the Sunday drama allowed Janes to slip through in to second place and enjoy his 38 point cushion as the field heads to Spain.

“It will be tense but I am busy next week working in the office and also in Italy on business for the day, so I will not have too much time to think about things,” commented Janes.

There were several other notable performances over the course of the weekend, including Fabio Citignola who fought back from a troubled Saturday to score a podium in race three.

Jose-Eduardo Rodrigues also showed well scoring points in all four races, while T Sport’s Terry Gibbon took third place in race two.

As in Zolder Dominique Orsini claimed an eighth place finish to gather three welcome points at his home race.
