Another thrilling weekend of GRAMMER TRUCK CUP action took place at Circuit Zolder last weekend....
The GRAMMER TRUCK CUP battles witnessed typical intensity on the track at Circuit Zolder last weekend.
It was another all-British clean sweep of the wins as Jamie Anderson took both Sunday wins, while Oly Janes and Terry Gibbon shared the Saturday spoils.
The points standings make interesting reading for the Chrome categorised drivers with Janes extending his lead to 28 points as Jamie Anderson leapfrogged Luis Recuenco who despite taking two pole positions netted just 24 points over the course of the weekend after several excursions and issues.
Janes’ race two win came after two re-starts and saw Janes’ path to maximum points made easier when Terry Gibbon was forced to pit due to a battery issue.
For the Buggyra Racing driver it was a third win of the 2019 campaign but with Anderson in a rich vein of form and with 120 points to play for, the title is still wide open heading to Le Mans at the end of the month.
Anderson took a pair of clinical wins on Sunday, finishing a fine eighth in race three which set up a rare semi-reverse grid pole position for race four.
Despite mounting pressure from eventual winner Antonio Albacete, Anderson putting in an accomplished display to take seventh overall and a dominant GRAMMER TRUCK CUP victory.
“I am pleased I was able to lead those few laps under that pressure from guys who have been doing this for a years and years,” said Anderson after the last race.
“Once Antonio and Rene [Reinert] got through, Rene went to go by as well and I ended up on the gravel a bit so lost positions but my pace was good and considering this is only my second season I think we can be proud as a team.”
“Regarding the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP title then we are right in it now. Oly has an advantage but we were quick at Le Mans and Jarama last season and we are feeling really quietly confident we can bring a real challenge for the title there.”
Terry Gibbon took a third GRAMMER TRUCK CUP win from four races after the Saturday action as he put in one of his best ever performances in his T Sport MAN to seal a crushing win in the second race.
Similarly to Anderson a day later, Gibbon led away from the pole twice in a disrupted race which saw two red flags. Sadly for Gibbon a dead battery after a few laps of the re-started race ensured a pit stop but he fought back to claim fourth place in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP classification.
Also enjoying podium finishes at Zolder were David Jenkins and Jose-Eduardo Rodrigues.
Jenkins made his first FIA ETRC appearance at Zolder since 2017 and was quickly on the pace mixing it with the leaders and taking second place and ninth overall in the first encounter on Saturday.
Another podium finish with third on Sunday was an excellent return for the BTRA regular who is eyeing more FIA ETRC appearances in the future. Jenkins though is not eligible for points after entering beyond the rounds five deadline on a race by race basis.
Young Rodrigues had a solid weekend scoring his best points haul of the season and taking a best ever second place after a mature drive in race two aboard his Reboconort MAN.
Erwin Kleinnagelvoort also had a highlight performance as he claimed fourth in race three in his EK Scania. The Dutch driver also indulgein some awesome scraps during the weekend, notably with Fabio Citignola on Sunday when the two literally went door handle to door handle!
Dominique Orsini salvaged some points in race three with an eight in class but he suffered multiple issues on Saturday and again in the final race with his Mercedes-Benz truck.
