Albacete Storms to Zolder Pole

Antonio Albacete set a memorable lap to grab pole from Jochen Hahn this morning....

Antonio Albacete stormed to his third pole position of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at Circuit Zolder this morning.

The Spaniard lapped the track in 1m57.332s to snatch pole away from Jochen Hahn in the final moments of the 10-minute Super Pole session.

Albacete hurled his Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN around the challenging Belgian track to post a time just under 0.5s clear of his German rival.

Hahn had posted a 1m57.828s to briefly head the times but Albacete ensured he will start from pole for the first of the four FIA ETRC races this weekend.

Adam Lacko will head the second row of the grid in his Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner ahead of Rene Reinert’s Reinert Racing MAN.

Andre Kursim continued his good form at the track where he took his memorable double victory last season by claiming fifth in his Don’t Touch Racing MAN challenger.

Kursim beat former team mate Norbert Kiss who was disappointed by being a second in arrears of the pole time.

Sascha Lenz will start seventh in his SL Trucksport MAN ahead of Steffi Halm’s IVECO.

Completing the top ten are Steffen Faas who was the quickest GRAMMER TRUCK CUP runner in ninth and Jose Rodrigues who saw his final qualifying lap deleted for track limit violations.

Hahn Heads Timed Practice

Hahn led the way in the timed practice session immediately before Super Pole as he lapped in 1m58.731s to eclipse title rival Adam Lacko by 0.2s.

Rene Reinert set a best lap good enough for third ahead of Tankpool24 Racing’s Norbert Kiss, Sascha Lenz, Antonio Albacete and Jose Rodrigues.

Steffi Halm slotted in to eighth for Team Schwabentruck IVECO while Steffen Faas headed the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP times ahead of Andre Kursim in 10th.

Despite a last ditch attempt to make it in to the Super Pole Shane Brereton just missed out and will start from 11thon the grid.

Oly Janes placed 12thand third in GRAMMER ahead of Iberian pair Luis Recuenco (Trucksport Lutz Bernau) and Jose-Eduardo Rodrigues (Rebonconort MAN).

Jamie Anderson was 15thas he continued to learn the Zolder track and his countryman Ray Coleman was just behind in 16thas he returns to FIA ETRC competition in his LRS Racing run MAN.

Erwin Kleinnaglvoort rounded out the runners in his Scania.

Race 1 is scheduled to begin at 14.00 local time this afternoon.
