Steffi Halm recently tried out the unique IVECO Stralis Natural Power truck....
The FIA European Truck Racing Championship has always had strong links with the trucking, haulage and logistic sectors.
Round four of the championship held at the Slovakia Ring in mid-July served as an opportunity to present one of the most-interesting new solutions in the industry to the truck racing fraternity.
Series front-runner, Team Schwabentruck’s Steffi Halm swapped her usual drive for an IVECO Stralis Natural Power truck and took it for a spin around the circuit.
A Liquefied Natural Gas-powered truck is a solution for sustainable transport which is already available on the market. One of the greatest advantages of the LNG power is a massive reduction of CO2emission, with a TCO2emission up to 9% lower compared to diesel trucks.
The vehicle was designed for long haulage transport, with a range up to 1600km (1000 miles), at the same time offering a silent and vibration-free working space to its driver.
Above everything, the truck shows exceptional fuel efficiency and low total cost of ownership and 460bhp guarantees sufficient amount of power.
Gas-powered Stralis offers up to a 15% improvement in fuel consumption in comparison with equivalent diesel trucks, with natural gas being cheaper than diesel fuel in most European countries.
The heart of the truck, a brand new Cursor 13 Euro 6 gas engine was specifically developed for long-haul international transport. It delivers the same power and torque output as Euro 6 diesel engines, offering such benefits as strong re-accelerations, limited gear changes on challenging hilly terrain. It also makes it easy to maintain top speed on all gradients.
Stralis is the biggest and most powerful truck in the IVECO range of naturally-powered vehicles, with its smaller branches of Daily HI-MATIC Natural Power and Eurocargo Natural Power completing the family.
