Lacko claims first pole of the season in Hungary

Adam Lacko claimed pole position for the first of this weekend’s FIA European Truck Racing Championship races held at the Hungaroring.

Adam Lacko driving his Freightliner run by Buggyra International Racing System claimed pole position for the first of this weekend’s FIA European Truck Racing Championship races held at the Hungaroring.

The reigning champion set a time of 2:18.436 on his first run in the Super Pole session, eclipsing current points leader Jochen Hahn aboard his Team Hahn Racing IVECO by just 0.28s to take his maiden Super Pole of the season and his first since Zolder last September.

Representing local favourites, the OXXO Hungary Truck Racing Team, Ryan Smith completed the top three (2:18.536) and will head the second row of the grid with local ace Norbert Kiss (2:18.594) in Mercedes-Benz truck run by Team Tankpool24 Racing alongside him.

Remarkably the top four were completed by just 0.158s!

Timed Practice pace-setter Antonio Albacete of Truck Sport Lutz Bernau manged fifth overall, after he went slower than in the previous session, setting 2:18.436.

The Trucksport Lutz Bernau racer will be joined on row three of the grid by Steffi Halm in her Team Schwabentruck IVECO.

The following places went respectively to: Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport), André Kursim (Don’t Touch Racing), Rene Reinert (Reinert Racing) and Shane Brereton (TOR Truck Racing), who was also fastest amongst the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP participants.

Timed Practice

Albacete went quickest of all in the earlier Timed Practice session, setting 2:18.475. The Spaniard was followed by Lacko, Kiss, Hahn and Smith who rounded out the top five.

Behind there was a quartet of Germans with Kursim, Lenz, Reinert and Halm occupying place from sixth to ninth respectively. Brereton completed the Top 10 on this occasion as well.

Albacete’s team-mate Luis Recuenco was the first one beyond the drop off zone, in 11th. The Spaniard, also second-fastest in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP ahead of Jamie Anderson, Ray Coleman, Oly Janes, Erwin Kleinnagelvoort, Terry Gibbon and Steffen Faas, who’ll line up at the back of the grid for the race held at 13:20 local time.

*Truck #32 of Luis Recuenco received a penalty of five grid positions drop for overtaking under red flag conditions in Free Practice 1. As a result, the Spanish driver will start 16th.
