Young German truck racer, André Kursim, took a memorable first FIA European Truck Racing Championship win of his career in race two held at Circuit Zolder in Belgium this afternoon.
The 25-year old, who started third in the semi-reversed grid race, led home team-mate and race one winner Norbert Kiss, to complete a one-two finish for Team Tankpool24 Racing.
Antonio Albacete, starting fifth, pressurised Kursim for the lead for most of the race but eventually lost out to Kiss in the closing stages as the pair went through Turns 2 and 3. Albacete eventually settled for third in his Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN entry.
Jochen Hahn, driving his Team Hahn Racing Iveco, finished best of the rest in fourth position, having recorded a three-place progression following his start from seventh on the grid.
Adam Lacko, who’s suffered a gearbox issue in race one, had a strong race and was the driver who gained most during the race The Czech ace started from the very back of the pack and made it all the way up to fifth place. Lacko now has a 44-point lead with 10 races remaining in the 2017 campaign.
Sascha Lenz stayed out of trouble in race two and having started sixth, he finished in the same position in his SL Trucksport MAN.
Steffi Halm took seventh place, and just like Lacko, was on a mission to regain lost ground. The Reinert Racing driver started from the back of the grid with her MAN entry missing the front bumper after a crash in race one earlier today.
Pole-sitter, Gerd Körber, slipped to third in the opening exchanges and lost out to both Kursim and José Rodrigues. The German truck racing stalwart held on to third place initially, but soon after, the Schwabentruck Iveco racer dropped further down the order and eventually finished ninth.
David Vršecký, driving the second of the Freightliners run by Buggyra International Racing System, rounded out the top ten. The Czech started fourth on the grid but was pushed out wide as the pack went through the first corner and lost several places.
Thomas Robineau completed the Promoter’s Cup podium, having finished 11th overall. The rest of the field came in as follow: José Teodosio (VTR Renault), Erwin Kleinnagelvoort (Scania), José de Sousa (VTR Renault) and José Eduardo Rodrigues (Reboconorte MAN).
Dominique Orsini (Mercedes-Benz) and Henry Tijhuis (DAF) failed to finish race two after suffering problems in the 12-lap event.
