Jochen Hahn (Team Hahn Racing Iveco) was the first truck on the road when the field hit the track for the second Super Pole session of the weekend, and the German was the first one to set time, being on provisional pole briefly, only to be eclipsed by local racer Lacko (Buggyra International Racing System) who went quicker by 0.256s.
Antonio Albacete completed the top three in the Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN and will have fellow MAN racer Steffi Halm (Reinert Racing) for company on row two of the grid.
Yesterday’s Super Pole winner Norbert Kiss (Tankpool24 Racing) was fifth fastest initially, ahead of Ryan Smith (Team OXXO Energy Racing MAN), David Vršecký (in the second of the Buggyra-run Freightliners), Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport MAN), Gerd Korber (Team Shwabentruck Iveco) and Frankie Vojtisek. Local hero Vojtisek, in his Czech Truck Racing Team MAN, managed to break into the top 10 for the first time this weekend ahead of his home crowd, at the same time being the only Promoter's Cup competitor in the top 10.
Timed practice
The final timed practice session of the weekend was headed by Norbert Kiss, whose Mercedes-Benz just pipped the Iveco of Jochen Hahn to the top spot. Hahn was first across the timing line, but Hungarian ace Kiss produced a lap just a hundredth of a second faster to head the top 10.
Reigning champion Hahn was unable to respond and the race one winner ended the session second fastest, while third was Adam Lacko in his Freightliner. The local hero was first out on track but unable to shade the pace of the cabover trucks.
Antonio Albacete’s MAN was fourth quickest, the Spaniard making it four different brands in the top four, with race two winner Ryan Smith squeezing a second lap out of his MAN to improve to fifth right at the end of the session.
Sascha Lenz (MAN) was sixth fastest ahead of the Reinert Racing MAN of Steffi Halm, while David Vršecký was eighth. Fellow Czech Frankie Vojtisek delighted the home crowd by making it three home drivers in the top 10, his MAN setting ninth best time ahead of the Iveco of truck racing stalwart Gerd Körber.
Those missing the cut were headed by José Rodrigues (Reboconort Racing Truck Team) with Dutchman Erwin Kleinnagelvoort (Scania) 12th fastest. Shane Brereton, Promoter’s Cup winner in race one yesterday, struggled for pace in his TOR Truck Racing MAN and was 13th ahead of Pole Grzegorz Ostaszewski’s Team 14 Renault.
Portuguese MAN driver Eduardo Rodrigues (Reboconort Racing Truck Team) was 15th quickest ahead of the Mercedes-Benz of Dominique Orsini with privateer enthusiast Maurice Monfrino rounding out the order in his bonneted Volvo.
Tankpool 24 Racing’s André Kursim will miss today’s action, a legacy of the major engine drams his Mercedes-Benz suffered in qualifying yesterday.
Race one will begin at 13:45 local time.
