Former double FIA ETRC champion David Vršecký has called time on his European truck career and will pursue new challenges in the Far East.
David Vršecký the most successful Czech trucker in history, double European champion in 2008 and 2009, quadruple winner of the Constructors´ Cup (2007 – 2009, 2015) and holder of several world speed records in trucks, has announced the end of his career on the European scene. He will head east to race in the Chinese Truck series this season.
“Judgement day has come,” said Vršecký. “I have been a full-time European Race Truck Championship pilot since 2002, without missing a single race. At the end of the season I realised that I could not manage simultaneously working on circuit race truck development and the Dakar rally race truck development, taking care of all team pilots and being a good full-time racing pilot myself.
This season will see Buggyra engage a new pilot in one of its trucks alongside Adam Lacko. Vršecký still wants to make himself available for a position as test pilot with the Czech team. “After all, my experience it can come in handy, I have participated in the development of all Buggyras so far. All things take time and the new pilot will have to learn to communicate with his truck.”
“I hope this will not be needed, though,” continued Vršecký. “In the course of the nearly twenty years I learned from Martin Koloc that at the beginning a pilot must feel the trust of the rest of his team, for to make mistakes from time to time is human. By the way, in the course of my first introductory and official training with Buggyra in February 2002 I turned the truck upside down. Martin Koloc said on that occasion that I would require a lot of work but on I would win the champion title.”
Buggyra team manager Jan Kalivoda paid tribute to Vršecký, saying: “David has won a lot of races, including two European champion titles, and is the quickest trucker in history. I can understand that the Chinese party welcomes engagement of a pilot of these qualities and sees in his participation increased prestige of the whole competition.”
In addition to the Chinese circuits David will also participate in this year´s world cross country championship, developing the Tatra Phoenix Dakar racing specials.
