Norbert Kiss scored his second pole position of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season this morning
Norbert Kiss scored his second pole position of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season this morning after putting in an excellent fastest lap in his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz.
The Hungarian stopped the clocks at 2m42.770s to set the fastest lap of the weekend as the FIA ETRC visits the Slovakia Ring for the first ever time.
Super Pole was effectively a one lap showdown as none of the ten trucks bettered their initial runs in the 10-minute session.
Kiss’ best time was 0.466s faster than Antonio Albacete’s best effort as the Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN driver confirmed a place on the front row of the grid for race one this afternoon.
It was a close run thing for the multiple Spanish champion though, as his time of 2m43.236 was just an incredible 0.001s ahead of points leader Adam Lacko (Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner).
Alongside Lacko on the second row will be reigning champion Jochen Hahn (Hahn Racing Iveco), while Steffi Halm (Reinert Racing MAN) and David Vršecký (Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner) line-up on the third row.
Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport MAN) and Gerd Körber (Team Schwabentruck MAN) make it an all-German affair for row four.
The final two places in Super Pole were taken by Promoter’s Cup rivals André Kursim (Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz) and José Rodrigues (Reboconorte MAN). The pair was again evenly matched with just 0.4s separating them around the 5.922kms Slovakia Ring circuit.
Kiss also heads timed qualifying
Norbert Kiss topped the times in the 10-minute timed practice session which decided the top 10 that made it through to the Super Pole session.
The double FIA ETRC champion, driving his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz, set a best of 2m42.928s which was just under half a second ahead of Adam Lacko’s 2m43.372s. The Buggyra International Racing System was in turn just 0.050s in front of reigning champion Jochen Hahn in his Hahn Racing IVECO entry.
Antonio Albacete (Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN) set fourth best time ahead of Steffi Halm (Reinert Racing MAN), David Vrsecky (Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner), Gerd Körber (Team Schwabentruck Iveco), Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport MAN).
Ninth quickest and the first of the Promoter’s Cup entries was André Kursim on a 2m45.357s best.
Making it in to the Super Pole session was Kursim’s Promoter’s Cup adversey José Rodrigues who took his Reboconorte MAN to a 2m45.702s lap. This was well ahead of the first driver to miss out on the Super Pole session – Stefan Faas, who is making his second FIA ETRC appearance this weekend for Team Schwabentruck. Unfortunately for Faas he saw his best time cancelled for exceeding track limits.
Erwin Kleinnagelvoort, the returning Frankie Vojtisek, Eduardo Rodrigues and Dominique Orsini will start 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th respectively on the race one grid.
