Hahn takes thrilling Super Pole at home

30 June 2017

Local ace Johen Hahn claimed his second pole position of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at the Nürburgring.

Local ace Johen Hahn claimed his second pole position of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at the Nürburgring in his Team Hahn Iveco truck this afternoon, in what turned out to be another thrilling qualifying this year.

With little over 20s remaining in the session it was Norbert Kiss who was on provisional pole in his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz. The Hungarian was pushed hard by Antonio Albacete, who looked strong from the off. The Spaniard, driving the Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN, ended up just 0.001 shy of Kiss.

Adam Lacko will line up alongside Albacete on the second row of the grid for the first of tomorrow’s two races. The Buggyra International Racing System driver was only 0.280s off pole, while Steff Halm in fifth was a mere 0.214s off Lacko’s time.

Sasha Lenz will partner Halm on the grid tomorrow in an all-German, all-MAN row. The SL Trucksport driver, who ended up sixth, was the last driver to stay within a second of the pole position time.

Returning double FIA ETRC champion David Vršecký claimed seventh fastest, just over a second off the pole time in his first appearance this season. Vršecký joins teammate Lacko in the second Buggyra-run Freightliner.

Eighth fastest was another returnee, Frenchman Anthony Janiec in his Lion Truck Raing MAN.

Gerd Körber in the second of the Iveco entries ended up ninth fastest, while Andre Kursim in the second Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz rounded up the top ten, at the same time being the fastest amongst the Promoter’s Cup participants.

Timed Practice 1

In the earlier timed practice it was Norbert Kiss who set fastest time in his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz despite local ace Jochen Hahn setting the initial pace.

Second-fastest was Antonio Albacete, who carried on his impressive pace from the second of the free practiced sessions held earlier in the day.

Third went to Steffi Halm, who just pipped her compatriot Jochen Hahn, who ended up fourth fastest in the session which made up the Super Pole top ten.

Returning double FIA ETRC champion David Vršecký eclipsed his championship-leading team-mate Adam Lacko, to round out the top five.

Sasha Lenz went seventh-fastest, while positions eight to ten were occupied by the same drivers as in the Super Pole session, with Janiec in eighth, Körber in ninth and Kursim completing the top ten.

Jeremy Robineau, who took over the #21 MAN from brother Thomas, went seventh fastest initially, however the Frenchman had his times cancelled due to overspeeding.
