What the Drivers said on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring

14 May 2017

Check out what the stars of the show at Red Bull Ring said after a second day of action.

Race 3

Steffi Halm – Reinert Racing | MAN

"The pressure was on all the time. First of all, it was my first ever pole position in the FIA ETRC, then with Jochen [Hahn] alongside me, I saw what he’s capable of yesterday. I just wanted to win the race to the first corner and I did. From then on, I just tried to make no mistakes and not to overdrive my tyres. This didn’t work very well, so I had the pressure on me all the time during the race, but the number one goal was not to make a mistake. I knew that if I didn’t make a mistake, then it will be very difficult for Jochen to overtake me."

Jochen Hahn – Hahn Racing | IVECO

"Steffi did a fantastic job from pole. The rain was coming on the last lap and I thought: ‘OK, maybe now I have a chance’ but then the red flag came out and it is what it is. Fantastic job, Steffi. Congratulations. "

Antonio Albacete - Truck Sport Lutz Bernau | MAN

"We’re all very happy, because yesterday we had some problems in the first race and it’s very good for us to come back with a podium finish. Let’s hope there’s more podiums to come this season. I’d like to congratulate Steffi, she had a fantastic race. I’m still a little bit off the pace, but we will come back stronger."

Race 4

Jochen Hahn – Hahn Racing | IVECO

"For most of the race I was third, but I’ve put a little bit of pressure on Adam, said hello, and he felt the pressure and tried to overtake Lenz. In truck racing sometimes you need to wait and see what happens.

“What can I say, it’s perfect, well… nearly perfect. We’ve got 51 points. I’m not thinking yet about the title. Yes, we’re looking forward, but there is eight more weekends to come and it’s way too early to say that we’re the champions. We must fight and then we will see.

“The new truck is actually quite similar to the last year’s one. It’s just a little bit different, but we can handle it and we hope for a good season. Misano is my favourite circuit, it’s Iveco’s home race, so looking from this side I’m very optimistic. Hopefully we will win there."

Adam Lacko – Buggyra International Racing System | Freightliner

"When two fights, the third one wins. This situation turned out to be true during race four. We had a fight with Sasha [Lenz] on our hands and Jochen [Hahn] was playing a waiting game. Jochen was much faster, so I gave him space, because why would I close the door on him?

“The set-up of the truck got better and better over the course of the weekend, but it was not enough for this circuit. I think it will better suit Misano, so let’s see how well we’re prepared for Misano. Last year Misano was perfect for us and I’ll try to repeat that."

Sascha Lenz – SL Trucksport | MAN

"For us it was a very good weekend! In the practice we’ve been very fast but then we’ve had a few troubles holding the pace in the race. Today in the last race (race four) I was a bit in a lucky position and I could enter the first turn in the leading position and hit my own pace.

“At some point I’ve seen Adam and Jochen behind me and I knew that they would be faster than me. Of course I was trying to defend my position for a couple laps but they both managed to overtake me – that’s racing! It still was a very good weekend for us and I’m absolutely happy with this! "
