One of the FIA European Truck Racing championship regular drivers, Sascha Lenz, is relishing the prospect of more trucking duels in 2017.
After a promising 2016, the German ace, who celebrated his 30th birthday last month, is aiming to carry the momentum of scoring two podium positions at Most and Zolder.
“Last season was a mix but I think that when we could we scored some nice results,” said Lenz. “Yes, we want to take that momentum and score more of the same and even better results in 2017.”
He will try and do it with a substantially updated MAN truck this season. He and his team have been hard at work in their SL TruckSport base and after a successful test at Most last month they are determined to start well in Austria.
“We have a new cab and also new front and rear axles,” said Lenz. “There is a lot of other work so we have a very developed truck now with many additional technical changes. I think it will all be positive and already at Most it felt better and more stable than the 2016 configuration. We are happy with the direction in which we are heading”
The German runs his own team along with mother Silvia Lenz, who managed his father Heinz-Werner to many wins and three Race-Truck titles in the 1990s. Sascha is aware that the 2017 grid will be even tougher this season. But, he believes that with his growing experience and confidence there will be strong results that lay ahead this season.
“This season looks very strong with many drivers capable of winning, so it will be even harder than 2016 to get a first win,” says Lenz. “But this is competition and this is why it is the toughest championship for trucks. For sure last season there were some occasions when I started at the front or close to the front on the reverse grid and it could be the same again in 2017. I just have to make sure I take the chances that are offered when they come along.”
Lenz, who has been immersed in truck racing throughout his life, will call upon all his love, skill, commitment and passion to try and break through to the winners circle in 2017 with the familiar orange SL TruckSport MAN challenger.
