We caught up with the podium visitors in races three and four after the action in Hungaroring last Sunday. This is what they said.....
RACE 3
Jochen Hahn
“The answer is coming from Norbi (Kiss), it’s not traction, its horsepower (off the line). But I had a really good start and I am shifting to eight and I can hear that Norbi (Kiss), is in seventh and I think OK, it has worked and form this start I have a small gap.
“But then for the first two laps I had big problems with the tyres and he is there right behind me saying “Hello Jochen, hello Jochen” and I say “Yes Norbi, I can see you, but what can I do”. Then after the third lap it is going better and better and I am very happy to win, especially to win a second race.”
Norbert Kiss
“I knew that even before the race I would be in trouble with the start, as this has been a common thing at every race weekend so far – that it has been really hard for me to keep my position form the start.
“Obviously the engine is still under development and there is still a long way to go until we will be able to have a strong enough unit to keep the position and have good acceleration.
“But it was OK, after that I can see that Jochen can close the door on me before the first turn and so I knew I only had a chance to keep the second place.
“After that it was fine as I didn’t have major problems with the tyres, it was all very consistent and I could hit my marks and do everything I wanted to do, but I just wasn’t fast enough because we lose a little bit in the first sector on speed.”
Adam Lacko
“Yes, it was very difficult for us on Saturday to find the speed, so am very pleased that today is better and to be back on the podium. We hope to have a good race four and maybe even another podium.”
RACE 4
Gerd Korber (winner on the road but subsequently penalised for overspeeding)
“I did a good start and I controlled the race. I heard from Ryan that he had some problems with the brakes, so in one section I was faster than him and on other sections he was faster than me. It was definitely a close rather, but it was also a fair race.
“I am absolutely happy. I think my last win was back in 2009 and this is my first win with Team Schwabentruck and it is great that it happens here in Hungary, as I started my race career here back in 1987, so I am happy to win one race and really happy for the team too.”
Ryan Smith (runner-up on road but subsequently penalised for overspeeding)
“You know, I make no excuses. Gerd (Körber) deserved this win, he drives unbelievable, he does not make one mistake, one part of the circuit he was faster and another part we put him under the maximum pressure that we could, but it is Gerd Korber, what he has achieved in motor sport is incredible and to be stood up here with Adam Lacko also, it is an honour. I am delighted with the weekend, delighted for everybody who has taken part. Great fans, great circuit and I look forward to Most.”
Adam Lacko (finished third on road but subsequently promoted to first place after post-race penalties)
“Today is much much better than yesterday, two third places is not bad and I am very happy with this, as my team has had a hard weekend with a lot of work and this is perfect for the end.
Supplementary Adam Lacko quote after promotion to first position:
“So it is after the race and there is no ceremony or anything, but it is nice because the start is not correct and so we are very happy it is like this, that we have the points and first place for team it perfect
“Yes, we are still in touch (with Jochen), but he won a lot of points here. But until now the gap has always been just one point and two points, but now he has over 10 and it is not so easy, but I say to everybody the season finish with the last lap and the last chequered flag in Le Mans. This is the racing here in trucks and as we see yesterday, 50 metres before the finish, Frankie thinks he is on the podium and then nothing, this is what I say, last lap, last chequered flag, this is the end of the season.”
“To win in front of Czech fans, Czech sponsors and everyone next weekend would be really nice, but we will see.”
