What the drivers said on Saturday in Hungary

27 August 2016

It was a day full of excitement, action and yes...controversy! But the fans left Hungaroring knowing they had seen some remarkable top-class FIA European Truck Racing battles

RACE 1

1st – Jochen Hahn

It might look easy, but it is always hard and you can easily lose concentration, so I was looking in my mirrors and watching Norbi (Kiss) and Ryan (Smith) and I nearly went off, so then I think to focus. But yes, very pleased with performance and I think we can score some good points this weekend.”

3rd – Ryan Smith

Yes, good result for OXXO Energy Racing team here at their home event. Some good racing, I thought that Jochen (Hahn)and I would get away from Janiec who was in front of this man (Kiss), but then I looked again and he was through and catching me. I held him off for a long time, but then he made a move in the last corner and got through. But the pace is good, there are three more races to go and we look forward to more fights.”

RACE 2

1st Steffi Halm

The plan was to overtake Frankie (Vojtisek) at the start, but it was not possible, because the speed was not so high. I was very lucky that I was able to overtake him, it was not so easy as he directly goes to the inside line and defends, and so were only able to drive the longer line. I was very surprised that he was able to stay in front of all of the trucks and I think they were all stuck behind him.  It was so difficult to overtake him, but this was my chance to win and I got it.”

2nd Anthony Janiec

“I think it is a good race for the people, good fighting and good for the championship, but not so good for Frankie (Vojistek). The truck felt good and my team have worked hard so I am very happy with the performance and ready to fight again tomorrow.”

3rd Norbert Kiss

Yes the beginning of the race was very good, I had a good start and was feeling very confident, up until I arrived behind Frankie (Vojistek), who I think was driving on purpose slowly in front of everybody and then everybody was getting into a fight behind him and everybody was pushing and so it wasn’t really a good thing to do by Frankie and I think he was not accelerating on purpose and I see no point in that.

“Yes I touch him in the last corner and I give him a little bit of a push, but because he was so slow. He didn’t accelerate and normally we would accelerate. I am very sorry for him and for the damage, but we were going up to the chequered flag, I had no chance to overtake him and he should have pushed there, but he didn’t.”
